The James G. Browder, Jr. oral history transcript consists of a 76 page transcribed oral history interview. Browder relates his experiences as a student at the Virginia Military Institute (VMI) and shares how he was assigned to Italy with the U.S. Army Southern European Task Force. According to Browder, Captain Bill Griffin was his first and one of his best mentors. Browder discusses his experiences and challenges as a commander, a general, and a reserve officer. He recalls his time at the U.S. Army War College. Browder details life after retirement. He briefly discusses the quality of officers and the condition of the U.S. Army during his time of service.

Major General (MG) James G. Browder, Jr., was born and raised in Brunswick County, Virginia.
